Scholarships offered

Second Generation Kol Israel is accepting applications for its 2006 Dr. Leatrice Rabinsky Holocaust Education Scholarships. Funds will be granted for research studies in Holocaust-related areas, or for trips to Holocaust sites or educational facilities. Applications are due by March 31. Call 216-561-7709.

Teachers recognized

Four teachers in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District have earned the profession's highest honor: National Board Certifiction from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. They are Sandy Axner, third grade at Boulevard Elementary; Marian Kopp, language arts and social studies at Monticello Middle School; Stephanie Myers, third grade and math program specialist for Canterbury Elementary; and Lorene Varley, first grade at Boulevard.

Darfur rally in D.C.

American Jewish World Service and the Jewish Council on Public Affairs have asked Jewish organizations to join in supporting a rally to stop the genocide in Darfur. Thousands are expected to participate in the rally in Washington, D.C., on April 30. The Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland is coordinating local efforts to increase awareness.www.MillionVoicesForDar fur.org.

Volunteers needed

Hospice of The Cleveland Clinic is looking for long-term weekday volunteers to support terminally ill patients and/or their families. Each volunteer will be asked to visit once a week at a time when patients and families need it the most. Must have reliable transportation. Training and guidance will be provided.
