Survivors: Halt restitution deadlines
(JTA) - A coalition of Holocaust survivors called for a delay in restitution deadlines so a newly opened archive may be examined.
The coalition of 24 groups from across the United States said in an open letter last week that the opening earlier this year of archives in Bad Arolsen, Germany, perhaps the largest repository of Holocaust-era information, could lead to new information for survivors and their families seeking restitution. They cited recent settlements with Holocaust-era insurers, including the Italian company Generali, that are due to lapse in coming months.
