Picture perfect winners at JCC
Winners of the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland’s 37th Annual Photography Show will be recognized at an opening reception on Mon., April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the JCC.
The show was juried by former Clevelander Abe Frajndlich, freelance art, magazine and commercial photographer whose work is among many permanent art collections including those at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Progressive Corporation and Baker & Hostetler.
More than 550 photographs were submitted from 117 photographers, including professionals, amateurs and students as young as 4 and 5. The exhibition will feature 75 photos from 55 photographers.
Top prize n The Mark Schwartz and Bettina Katz Best in Show award n went to “Malvern Sunset” by Caydie Heller of Shaker Heights. Heller also snagged the award for Best in Black and White for her piece “Quintina Roo.”
The Best in Color award went to “Cape Cod Eastham” by Abe Chasin of Mayfield Heights. Gabe Schaffer of University Heights won the Judge’s Choice award for “Man in Box” and the Honorable Mention in Jewish Theme for “Burning Bush II.”
Also on display will be “Visitor,” a photo of Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball player Rodney Buford, by Cleveland Jewish News senior staff reporter Douglas J. Guth.
The show will be on exhibit at the JCC through June 3. It is free and open to the public during building hours. Many of the works are available for purchase. 216-831-0700
