A fond Mizrachi farewell

Published: Thursday, June 7, 2007 9:52 PM EDT
When I transferred from my former school to Fuchs Mizrachi School in the third grade, I was not sure what to expect.

Entering an unfamiliar environment is always difficult and frightening … even more so for a grade-schooler.

Walking into a classroom among strangers whom I had never met before, I was greeted by several students with ecstatic warmth and hugs. It was as if we had known each other for years. This immediate ahavat Yisrael (love of our fellow brethren) has become the expected norm from Mizrachi students. From day one, students are taught by their faculty role models how to care for a fellow Jew. We are always there to help each other, as we truly care about one another.

One of the more important things I have learned from my teachers is not to be judgmental and to understand that every individual is different. While we are all different, we must understand that we are all here to serve a common purpose. Our education at Mizrachi taught us to be open-minded. We all understand that to live a complete life can only be done through a healthy combination of Torah and Madah. We must serve Hashem in our own way, which was expected of us when we were put into this world.
