Signstage returns

Published: Thursday, November 29, 2007 6:09 PM EST
Cleveland Signstage Theatre is coming back to Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, its home in the mid-1970s.

The CHSC board of directors has agreed to acquire all of Signstage’s assets, as the nonprofit arts organization’s educational, literacy, and advocacy programs for the deaf community match its mission.

Founded in 1975 as Fairmount Theater of the Deaf, Signstage’s original mission was to present plays that both hearing and deaf audiences could understand and enjoy, incorporating actors who both spoke their lines and signed them in American Sign Language. In 2002, Signstage changed its mission to focus on providing unique learning experiences to children in local school districts using theater arts, American Sign Language and deaf issues.

Now, the Signstage program will be administered by CHS’s Community Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing department. For more info, contact William Morgan at 216-231-8787, ext. 302.
