Zoom in and focus on Jewish films this fall as The Mandel Jewish Community Center presents its third annual Leonard Krieger Cleveland Jewish FilmFest Oct. 15-25.
Twelve Jewish-themed films, including documentaries, features and shorts, will be screened at Cleveland Cinemas theaters. A lineup featuring Israeli, American, French, German and Russian films touches on subjects ranging from Chasidim leaving the fold, to unlikely connections between Jews and Palestinians, to the rich fantasy life of a dreamy bat mitzvah girl.
There’s also “Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg,” the critically acclaimed documentary about Gertrude Berg whose character Molly Goldberg was the first Jewish character on mainstream radio and TV.
The festival premières Thurs., Oct. 15, with a screening of “Refusenik,” a documentary about the Soviet Jewry movement, at 7 at Shaker Square Cinemas, followed by a reception.
Tickets can be purchased at the JCC membership services desk or by calling 866-546-1358 or visiting www.clevejcc.org. For tickets to the opening film and reception or a patron pass that provides admission to all films, contact 216-593-6278.
