Wiggins Place’s director of resident services Susan Ruck said she never thought she would be one of the best nurses in Ohio.
Ruck, who’s been with the assisted-living facility in Beachwood for eight years, was recently named the outstanding nurse of 2012 by the Ohio Assisted Living Foundation.
“I enjoy coming to work every day,” said Ruck. “I enjoy what I do. So, it’s easy for me to be kind and patient with my tenants, because that’s what they really need.
“I feel like I treat them the way I wanted my own parents to be treated.”
Ruck has implemented new programs, including one to help residents handle their daily activities, and developed a medication management program.
Nancy Sutula, Wiggins Place administrator, praised Ruck, who also worked 18 years at Menorah Park.
“She is one amazing individual,” Sutula said. “She epitomizes what an outstanding nurse should be in an assisted living setting. Susan has genuine love of the tenants, families and staff. Susan has such a kind heart, that she can put the most anxious tenant at ease with her compassionate touch. She makes each tenant feel like they are the most important person in the world, which they are at that moment. I wish that every assisted living could have a Susan Ruck on their staff.
