The following policies apply:

  • Letters should relate to material published in the CJN or to issues of importance or interest to the Jewish community. Letters should express the writer's opinion and not be directed at third parties.

Letters should be a maximum of 200 words; letters responding to published letters must be no longer than the original letter.

  • All letters are subject to editing for length, conformity to CJN style, tone, grammar, redundancy, and logic.
  • Anonymous or pseudonymous letters, form letters, mass mailings, or letters sent to other publications will not be considered for publication. The same holds true for poetry or songs.
  • Once submitted, all letters become the property of the CJN and may be reproduced in any CJN publication, print or electronic, at any time.
  • Letters containing obvious factual inaccuracies, unattributed facts and quotes, insulting comments or libelous statements will not be published. Responses to writers that include demeaning comments will not be published.
  • A letter writer may submit a letter every 30 days.
  • Due to limited space in the printed CJN, letters written by Clevelanders or former Clevelanders will be given preference over letters by those with no direct ties to Cleveland. Comments on articles posted on our website are invited at all times from readers regardless of Cleveland connections.
