Richard Klein, Dr. Roger and Marlene Klein. Roger Klein is general chairman of the Israel Bonds Cleveland Advisory Council.

In the Point East Condominiums party room in Beachwood, banners advertised the Israel Bonds slogan, “A Strong Nation. A Strong Investment.” Eighty enthusiastic investors – all having committed significant funds backing the future of Israel – attended a kosher dinner for the Israel Bonds Honor Society on July 18. A strong investment, indeed.

Speakers included Debi Slater, Cleveland Woman’s Division chair; Thomas Lockshin, executive director of Ohio and Kentucky; and a campaign update by Cleveland general chairman Roger Klein.

Isaac Yedid was recognized for his leadership, serving as Cleveland general chairman from 2016 to 2018. He shared that his earliest motivation commenced in a week back in 1967 when he was taking his college exams in the United States at the same time soldiers were fighting in Israel. To Yedid, it solidified the importance of supporting Israel.

Attendees also heard from guest speaker Galit Peleg, a foreign minister of Israel who is Consul for Public Diplomacy, Consulate General of Israel in New York, who after spending four years in New York, will be returning to Israel. She spoke about the challenges of boycott, divestment and sanctions on college campuses and some success stories, followed by an inspirational presentation on Israel’s technology and innovation.

It was only fitting she gave one more passioned plea to support its mission and reminded everyone Israel bonds can be given as gifts for as little at $36. Need a bar mitzvah, wedding or 50th birthday gift? You can buy a bond. Always in style.
