It’s been said no one likes to be labeled. Fortunately for the 200 attendees at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Young Leadership Division Summer Soiree, being labeled was actually the goal! To initiate conversation and camaraderie, individuals could choose to self-identify by wearing labels such as “New to CLE,” “West Side,” “East Side,” “Browns Fan,” “BBYO Alum,” various college Greek houses and other descriptors. For example, YLD board member Ari Milborn donned labels like “Transplant,” “East Sider” and “Ask Me About YLD.”

Held at the clubhouse at Cleveland Metroparks’ Acacia Reservation in Lyndhurst, the event started early for Ben-Gurion Society members, who were treated to a kosher buffet and close-up magic by Rick Smith Jr. Cameron Orlean explained, “Soiree is a great way to bring together the community.”

Co-sponsored with JCLE, the night was planned by a large committee directed by co-chairs Aaron Saltzman, Risa Katz, Kara Rosen and Ethan Krasnow.

Interestingly, there was not a label that said “Great Dancer.” That label could only be earned in person on the dance floor – with the help of the DJ and perhaps a few cocktails. It was a soiree, after all!
