Eugene Cahen

Eugene Cahen, 79, surrounded by loving friends and family, passed away on June 10, 2019 at McGregor Gardens in Cleveland following a brief illness.

He leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Marty and Susan; his niece Cherie Gold and her children Jarrad and Jillian; his nephew Farley, his wife Kasey and their children Oliver and Benjamin; his nephew Todd and his wife Sue; sister-in-law Liana; Jeanne Glazer, his aunt; and many close friends.

Born and raised in Cleveland, the son of Ted and Rose, brother to Marty and George, he was a lifelong resident of Cleveland and resided in the Shaker Square area for more than 50 years.

In his early years, Mr. Cahen worked the soda fountain at Ashwood Drug and apprenticed at Ben-San Jewelers learning the family jewelry trade. After graduating from John Adams High School in 1957, he attended Case Western Reserve University, graduating in 1961. During that time, he worked for his beloved uncle, Sam Glazer, in his real estate development company. He went on to receive his law degree from Western Reserve University School of Law.

After graduating, he accepted the position of primary legal counsel at Gray Drug, heading up lease negotiations and acquisitions for over 100 locations throughout Ohio. He, along with his younger brother George, owned and operated Treatment and Fragrance in Pavilion shopping mall in Beachwood. He not only took great pride in his business, but truly relished the friends he made during his time there.

Eugene had a passion for collecting antiques, pottery and many various objects d’art. His collection numbered in the thousands of beautiful and unique pieces. Eugene was always very kind and generous by gifting his friends and family with cherished treasures throughout the years.

An avid horticulturist, Mr. Cahen’s home was a virtual greenhouse. He very much enjoyed gardening and grew a multitude of fruits and vegetables on his outdoor deck where he and friends spent much time.

Eugene loved animals and over the years, he owned a number of birds. His most beloved parrot, Baby, was a constant companion for decades.

A graveside funeral service will take place at Lincoln Cemetery, Cedar-Sinai section located at W. 54th St. and Theota in Parma on Wednesday, June 12 at 11 a.m.

Following the service, friends and family are welcome to gather and celebrate Eugene’s life at the home of his friends Jessica and Richard Gurbst, located at 2099 Lamberton Rd., Cleveland Heights.
