Marilyn “Mikki” Starkman Evens passed away on Nov. 2, 2019, at the age of 92.
Her husband, Dr. Nathan Evens, and her brother, Harold M. Starkman, predeceased her. She is survived by her children, Deborah K. Greenberg, Joshua M. Greenberg and Jonathan D. (Holli) Greenberg. Also surviving are stepchildren Mark F. (Donna) Evens, Steven E. Evens (Bonita Makdad), and Betsy (Robert) Kastenbaum. Surviving grandchildren include Emily (Brendan) Reed, Amanda (Campe) Goodman, Daniel (Kathryn) Greenberg, Jessica Greenberg, Jonathan (Marion) Kastenbaum, Andrew (Avery) Kastenbaum, Daniel Evens, Jaclyn Evens and Elias Evens.
Mikki graduated from Radcliffe College in 1948. She earned a Master of Arts degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in 1950. Mikki taught English and western world literature at Virginia Commonwealth University for 10 years. Later, she was employed at Philip Morris USA, retiring in 1991 as manager of communications.
She was the first female president of the Harvard Club of Virginia. She also authored a history of the Jewish community of Richmond, “Through the Years.”
The family will receive visitors at a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14 at Stonewater Golf Club, 1 Club Drive in Highland Heights.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beth Ahabah Museum in Richmond, Va.
