Sheldon E. Fant, 87, of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away on Nov. 15, 2019. He is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 67 years, Shirley Fant (nee Friedman). He was a loving and devoted father to his daughters, Robin Steiner and Jodi Toren (husband, Robin Ader) and son, Alan Fant (wife Cathy, who has been more of a daughter than “daughter-in-law.”) He had six grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Ryan, Scott, and Marissa (Daniel) Steiner, Brad (Jacqueline) Fant, Andrea (Devan) Buggay and Eliana Toren. He is also survived by his brother, Ray Fant and sister-in-law, Judy.

Shelly was born on Sept. 1, 1932, in Cleveland to Betty and Phil Fant. He was raised in Cleveland with his brothers, Myron (of blessed memory) and Ray, with whom he shared a close relationship. He went to Shaw High School and then to Ohio Northern in Ada to become a pharmacist. Shelly was a co-owner of Gateway Drug in Mayfield Heights and Rose Drug on the west side of Cleveland. He was a member of the pharmaceutical fraternity, AZO, where he made lifetime friendships.

He was enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Shelly was a member of Park Synagogue when in Cleveland and enjoyed affiliations to synagogues in South Florida once he moved there in 1978.

He loved music, sports, nature, photography, and was an avid reader. Shelly was a golfer, a tennis and racquetball player, and pianist. We are grateful for the cherished memories and love we shared.

Chapel services were held Nov. 18 at Beth Israel Memorial Chapel, 11115 Jog Road in Boynton Beach. Rabbi Lester Hering and Cantor Michael Glozman officiated. Shelly was laid to rest following his funeral service at Eternal Light Memorial Gardens in Boynton Beach.

Contributions may be made in his loving memory to UAMS Myeloma Center, 4018 W. Capitol Ave., Little Rock, AR 72205.
