Dr. Joel B. Holland, 67, died on Sept. 20, 2019.
Joel is survived by Laura, his beloved wife of more than 30 years; his cherished sons, Jeffrey and Matthew; and his many close family members, friends and colleagues who remember him with love and respect.
Joel was born in New York City and received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Rochester, where he graduated at the top of his classes.
Following a residency in Chicago, Joel moved to Cleveland where his medical career spanned more than 35 years, the last 17 of which were as a cardiologist at Cleveland Clinic.
His professional accomplishments included appointments as co-chief of cardiology at Mount Sinai Hospital, associate chief of cardiology at University Hospitals and associate professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve University.
Joel was a longtime member of the board of trustees of the American Heart Association of Northeast Ohio and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Last April, Joel came on staff at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, N.Y., and the family moved to Huntington, N.Y.
Beyond the medical field, Joel enjoyed tennis, skiing, following the Cleveland Indians and Cavs, and bonding with his loyal canine child, Buddy.
Joel loved languages and his sons will miss the many post-its with instructions purposely written in French or Spanish so that someone would actually read them.
Above all, Joel was proud of his family. The true loves of his life were, without exception: Laura, Jeff and Matthew.
Funeral services and interment were held Sept. 22 at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, N.Y.
