Lefton

Earle Lefton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in San Diego on July 12, 2019. Earle was born in Cleveland on May 22, 1930.

He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State, he served as president of Phi Sigma Delta, where he made many life long friends. He spent his entire career as a successful home builder in the Cleveland area.

He met the love of his life, Mitzi Robbins, in 1952 and they married in 1954. Earle and Mitzi celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Earle was a devoted sports fan, both as a spectator and participant. He had a lifelong love/hate relationship with the Buckeyes, Indians and Browns. He was an avid racquetball and tennis player. He was the left fielder in the Old Men’s league in Beachwood on the Green team. He loved to organize his daily tennis games and being surrounded by his tennis playing friends.

His second love was to watch classic movies on TV and see first run movies in theaters. He was known for his ability to recite lines from movies and won many contests with his friends in doing so.

Earle was a resident of Beachwood for more than 60 years. He retired from home building in 1995 and spent the past 24-plus years living near his kids in San Diego.

In addition to his wife Mitzi, he is survived by his three children, Bob (Janet) Lefton, Laurie Arnold (Eric Wuerfel) and David (Shelley) Lefton; six grandchildren, Mallory (Taylor) Skidmore, Alana Arnold, Sean Lefton, Alexa (Michael) Fishman, Taylor Lefton and Jamie Arnold; three great-grandchildren, Sienna and Spencer Skidmore, and Lyla Fishman; his brother, Donald (Judy) Lefton, sister Eileen (Paul) Swaye; his sisters-in-law, Evie (Marvin) Grossman and Marcy Lefton; brother-in-law, Norbert Malin; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Albert Lefton; mothers, Rae Lefton and Mildred Lefton; his sister, Gloria Fried; and his sisters-in-law, Lillian Bendau and Sippy Malin.
