Byron Eugene Miller, 87, of Tiberias, Israel, passed away June 2, 2019.

Byron was born on Aug. 31, 1931, in Atlanta. He was a graduate of Henry Grady High School in Atlanta and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geological engineering while attending Auburn University and Oklahoma University. Byron served in the U.S. Air Force.

Professionally, Byron worked for Gulf Oil Corp. and was the owner of Eagle Technical Co., an importer of land surveying instruments. He was also an independent oil exploration wildcatter mostly in the Red River Basin in north central Texas.

Byron was a member of Tiferet Israel Synagogue in Dallas. Judaism was always important to Byron and he was very observant throughout his life. He enjoyed football, travel and living in Israel, Volunteers for Israel, wine making, horseback riding and barbecuing outside.

He could be stubborn about things, but still had a good sense of humor and a heart of gold. He was a very honest person. He loved his children – he used to remark “What did I do to deserve two such good children?” He also loved his three grandchildren.

Byron is survived by his children, Douglas (Amy) Miller of Highland Heights and Gina Miller of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Ilana Miller, Aaron Miller and Jordan Neale; sisters Sylvia (Morton) Banks of Huntsville, Ala. and Gayle (Arthur) Weissbrodt of Sunnyvale, Calif.

A traditional Israeli funeral was held at Tohar Ochel cemetery in Poriya, Israel, on June 6, 2019.
