Elana Fink, who just completed her freshman year as a journalism major at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, has been named the first Violet Spevack Editorial Intern. Fink, a Beachwood resident and graduate of Fuchs Mizrachi School in Beachwood, will work at the CJN Tuesday, May 29, through Friday, August 3.
Fink said she was excited to work at the CJN. “I’ve read it for a long time,” she said. She also has contributed articles to the CJN as a teen correspondent.
Her writing appeared in the CJN while she was in the high-school Write On for Israel program, an Israel advocacy and journalism program sponsored by The Avi Chai Foundation and the CJN and administered by @Akiva. One of her pieces was an opinion column about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Fink said she is looking forward to the internship as an opportunity to strengthen her writing skills. “Also, everybody always wants to know the news, and I love the news. I like the idea of informing other people about what’s going on,” she said.
