University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center has named Alan J. Papa its new president, following an extensive national search. His first day in his new role will be Nov. 18.
Papa’s appointment follows the exit of M. Steven Jones, who served as interim president for the past six months.
Papa joins University Hospitals after nine years at Cleveland Clinic, where he served most recently as president and chief operating officer.
“We look forward to working with Alan and are confident that his leadership will advance our mission, vision and values,” Neil Sethi, chair of the board of directors for UH Ahuja Medical Center, said in a news release. “Most importantly, he brings experienced leadership as we embark on a major new chapter in the future of UH Ahuja.”
In his new role, Papa will be responsible for the continued growth and operations of Ahuja Medical Center, including leading the $200 million expansion project to accommodate changing demographics, service needs and technologies. He will also be responsible for clinical programs and services, patient outcomes, safety and quality.
The expansion is expected to begin in early 2020, and will include labor and delivery services, a new neonatal intensive care unit, a sports rehabilitation complex, a breast health center, an ambulatory surgical center and an expanded emergency department.
