The Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy’s new home in Beachwood has allowed the pharmacy to not only continue its operations but expand them.
The compounding pharmacy, which makes medication or specialized medication, often for those with allergy issues or who need different doses, moved Feb. 12 from its former location in Cleveland Heights to 23865 Mercantile Road in Beachwood, said Rachael L. Israel, general counsel of Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy. Israel’s family owns the pharmacy and said since the move, the pharmacy now has five dedicated laboratories, instead of the three labs at its old location.
“The move allows us greater capacity and allows us to anticipate some regulations that we expect to be coming down the (pike) in the future” said Israel, who lives in Pepper Pike and whose family attends Park Synagogue in Cleveland Heights and Pepper Pike as well as the Jewish Family Experience in University Heights.
“Now, we have dedicated spaces to all the different aspects of our business,” she said. “Before, we were in a historic firehouse … (where) there was only so much we could do (to expand). What started as a large retail area had to be shrunk down as our lab space increased. (In the new location), we also intentionally left shelf space for future expansion to add new laboratories if we need to, or conversely, if we add office staff, to add office space. Now, we have executive offices, customer service areas and a large dedicated shipping area. Everyone is able to do their jobs more efficiently.”
Israel said the pharmacy, which has been in business for about 35 years, is open Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. She said with the new retail space the pharmacy has, they are hoping to increase their local foot traffic and will sell health supplements, in addition to medications.
