The Cleveland Foundation’s fourth annual Cleveland Book Week will be held from Sept. 18 to Sept. 28. This year’s showcase will celebrate past and present Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winners, as well as offer free literary events.
The 84th annual Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards are scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at the KeyBank State Theatre, 1519 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland. The 2019 honorees are Andrew Delbanco, who wrote “The War Before the War: Fugitive Slaves and the Struggle for America’s Soul from the Revolution to the Civil War,” nonfiction; Tommy Orange, who authored “There There,” fiction; Tracy K. Smith, “Wade in the Water,” poetry; and Sonia Sanchesz wil be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
To compliment the award show, INTER|URBAN, a LAND studio project, will place Anisfield-Wolf-inspired murals along the RTA Red Line. INTER|URBAN will debut two installations: a large-scale piece inspired by James McBride’s “The Color of the Water” on a University Hospitals parking garage,and a wall mural based on Jericho Brown’s “New Testament” at the East 34th Street campus.
Other events include author talks, literature panels and keynote speakers at locations throughout Northeast Ohio.
Admission to the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards is free, but a ticket is required.
