The Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra has announced its Frieda Schumacher Young Artist Competition for the 2019-20 season. It will be Jan. 11, 2020, at Cleveland State University’s Waetjen Auditorium, 2121 Euclid Ave. in Cleveland.
An annual statewide event, the contest is open to Ohio students in grades seven through 12. Entry is open to instrument and voice students.
Instrumental contestants should be prepared to perform a full-length concerto, drawn from the standard repertoire.
Singers may choose an aria or group of arias, or art songs with orchestral accompaniment.
The winner will receive a $400 prize, and the opportunity to be the featured soloist with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra on April 25 or April 26.
