The Gathering Place, headquartered in Beachwood, has signed a 10-year lease for a new facility at the Cuyahoga Community College Corporate College West building in Westlake.
The nonprofit organization, which serves individuals diagnosed with cancer and their families across Northeast Ohio, announced its plans to expand July 11.
The Gathering Place opened its first Westlake facility in 2008 to increase its ability to offer free programs and support services to West Side residents touched by cancer. The new location, at Center Ridge and Columbia roads, will provide The Gathering Place with additional programming space to meet the increasing demand for its services and build on its successful partnership with Tri-C.
“The West Side community has welcomed us with open arms since we began providing services in Westlake eight years ago,” Eileen Saffran, founder and CEO of The Gathering Place, said in a press release. “With a growing need for our services and support in this part of the region, we believe this is the ideal time to make a long-term commitment to a new West-Side home.”
The lease includes two additional five-year options. Drawings are being finalized, and construction will begin early next year with a move-in date projected for next summer. A capital campaign for $650,000 to renovate the space is underway.
Terri Pope, president of Tri-C’s Westshore campus in Westlake, said the location of the new space would provide more opportunities for collaboration between Tri-C and The Gathering Place.
“The college is very excited about this move,” Pope said in the release. “Both of our institutions are dedicated to serving members of the community.”
