The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will screen “The Spy Behind Home Plate”’ as part of its Newman Levy speaker series at 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at its center, 505 Gypsy Lane.
The documentary tells the story of Moe Berg, a Jewish catcher during the Golden Age of baseball who spied on the Nazis’ atomic bomb program after joining the U.S. Office of Strategic Services. Berg played for several teams, including the Cleveland Indians.
The Newman Levy speaker series created by Youngstown resident Marcia Levy in honor of her late husband, J. Newman Levy, and encourages participants to experience Jewish-related sports and culture through film and speakers.
The viewing is free and open to the public. Dinner is included.
