Alan Charnas will fill the spot on Orange council, following the April 16 death of former councilman Ronald Barron.
Charnas is managing partner at Storage Zone Self Storage, which has locations in the Cleveland and Akron areas. He is also a member of the board of trustees for Hillel at Kent State University.
Charnas will hold his position through the end of 2019, however he must run for election to keep the seat beyond the end of the year. He can choose to run to fill out either the two-year unexpired term on council that Barron held or he can run for a four-year term on council, and according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Election’s website, Charnas has already pulled petitions to run for the four-year term.
According to village charter, Orange council had 45 days from the first regularly-scheduled council meeting after Barron’s death to appoint someone to fill the seat; the first council meeting was on May 8. Charnas will be officially sworn in to council during the July 10 meeting.
