Gary Shamis, CEO of Winding River Consulting, was named board chair of Engage! Cleveland, where he is a foundation board member who helped launch the organization.
He assumed the role on July 1 and succeeds Neal Restivo, CEO of Oatey Co., according to a news release.
David Toth, vice president of USA Expositions, was named as a vice chair of Engage! Cleveland.
Engage! Cleveland is a community engagement organization for young professionals and business and community leaders who hope to attract, engage and retain young professionals to the Greater Cleveland area.
“It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to lead Engage! Cleveland after having been involved with E!C since before day one,” Shamis said in the news release. “What we have accomplished over the past six years has made a tremendous impact on Cleveland’s young professional community and for the many companies that work with us. Our goal as an organization is to continue growing and doing even more to advance Cleveland.”
Before starting his current firm, Shamis was CEO of the accounting firm SS&G Inc. before it combined with BDO USA in November of 2014. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with awards like E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year, a Top Ten Managing Partner Elite by Accounting Today and a Most Admired Peer by INSIDE Public Accounting.

Shamis authored the recently-published book, “Building Blocks Case Studies of a Serial Entrepreneur,” which features his experience launching Engage! Cleveland. He also co-authored “How To Manage Your Accounting Practice: Taking Your Firm from Chaos to Consensus” and “Stratagem: Simple, Effective Strategic Planning for Your Business and Your Life.”
