The city of Solon will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Solon Spins program at 4 p.m. Sept. 26, at the Solon Community Center on SOM Center Road.
The Solon Spins project was made possible by a donation from the Solon Rotary Club through the Solon Foundation. The project aims to provide residents, regardless of age, ability or affordability, the opportunity to ride a bicycle. Through Solon Spins, residents can borrow bicycles from the Solon Community Center and Solon Senior Center. Bikes will be available beginning Sept. 27. Hours for bike rental will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekends, with the last rental being at 4. The fee for bike rental is $2 for up to two hours. Hours for bike rental will be adjusted seasonally.
“We are very excited to be able to offer this program to our residents so everybody can experience the joys of riding a bike in our beautiful city,” Solon Mayor Eddy H. Kraus said in a news release. “Through Solon Spins, we are able to provide everyone the ability to affordably borrow a bicycle that meets their needs, so we hope people take advantage of this great opportunity.”
The Solon Spins project will also focus on bicycle education and will host “try it” programs. The next “try it” is at 1 p.m. Sept. 30.
