Sweeties Big Fun is now open in the Pinecrest mixed-use development in Orange.
Sweeties Big Fun, the joint candy-toy store owned by b.a. Sweetie Candy Company owner Tom Scheiman and Steve Presser, owner of the now-closed Big Fun on Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights, had its soft opening on July 11. Presser said they preferred to open the new store without any fanfare to see how the reaction would be, and so far he’s been impressed with the Pinecrest community.
“We did a soft opening, we didn’t want to announce it to the public,” Presser said. “We didn’t want to put it on social media. We just wanted people to organically come here. Our first five days have been wonderful, just wonderful. We’re really happy with what’s going on with the Pinecrest family here. Some people are old customers, but a lot are new customers.”
Presser said the store has stayed true to the vision when they announced Sweeties Big Fun in mid-April, though they have changed the store’s layout around to better fit the space. The store sells small toys, candy, specialty sodas, fresh popcorn and soft-serve ice cream.
One thing has changed, however, is that the soft-serve ice cream and popcorn are kosher. The certification is provided by Young Israel of Greater Cleveland in Beachwood.
With the Coventry Big Fun location closed as of June 30, Presser is now all-in on the new store.
“For me, it’s Sweeties Big Fun at Pinecrest,” Presser said.
Sweeties Big Fun hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday,
10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
The store is at 10 Park Ave., Suite 108.
