More than $1.5 million was raised for University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center June 15 at the Five Star Sensation at Cuyahoga Community College in Highland Hills. The event has raised more than $21 million for cancer research and treatment at UH.

More than 60 chefs and vintners from around the world were featured. Michael Symon, Iron Chef, author and Cleveland restaurant owner, served as host chef for the third year.

“I am thrilled for my continued participation in this culinary extravaganza in my hometown benefitting University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center,” Symon said in a news release. “It raises vital funds for such an important cause in our community, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve as Host Chef of this truly sensational evening.”

Celebrity chefs included: Jonathon Sawyer of Greenhouse Tavern in downtown Cleveland; Brad Lettau and Frank Ostini of The Hitching Post in Napa, Calif.; Celina Tio of The Belfry in Kansas City, Mo.; Charles Voudrous of iPic Entertainment in Los Angeles; John Alers of Flour & Barley in Las Vegas, Nev; Kelly English of Restaurant Iris, Memphis, Tenn.; Sam Choy of Poke to the Max in Hawaii; and Stephen Lewandowski of Harlan Social in Miami.

Funds raised support UH Seidman Cancer Center physician-scientists’ work to identify new therapies as well as community cancer screenings, cancer information services and public education programs.
