Candidates, issues on the November ballot

There will be many candidates and issues on the Nov. 5 ballot in Cuyahoga County.

The Cleveland Jewish News is highlighting candidates and issues in Jewish communities or races where Jews are represented. The charter issue filing deadline is Sept. 6. Ballot language is draft at this time.

In addition, there is a filing deadline of Aug. 22 for the communities of Chagrin Falls Village and South Euclid.

Proposed Charter Amendment

Shall the Charter of the County of Cuyahoga be amended to repeal Section 5.08 which provides for the appointment of the Sheriff by the County Executive; and to enact new Article XVI to provide for the appointment process of the Sheriff and to establish the powers, duties, qualifications, term, and removal process of the Sheriff?

A renewal of 1.9 mills and an increase of 0.4 mill to constitute a tax for the benefit of the Cuyahoga Community College District for the purpose of providing for payment of operating costs for educational services at a rate not exceeding 2.3 mills for each one dollar of valuation, which amounts to 23 cents for each one hundred dollars of valuation, for ten years, commencing in 2019, first due in calendar year 2020.
