South Euclid Mayor Georgine Welo retained her seat as the city’s mayor, with 2,834 votes (59.9%), according to final, unofficial results from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.
Her challenger, Shirley Smith, received 1,894 votes (40.1%).
For South Euclid City Council, there were three seats open and four people in campaigning for election. Incumbent Marty Gelfand, who gained the most votes in the race, will continue to serve the city in his role, with 2,778 votes (29.9%). Incumbent Justin Tisdale, who was appointed councilman in July to replace Jason Russell, won his first election with 2,492 votes (26.8%).
Newcomer Susan Hardy came in third place and got the final seat with 2,124 votes (22.9%). This is the first time she’s run for political office.
Curtis Orr lost the race with 1,901 votes (20.5%).
