Hawken School senior golfer Drew Covitt is the Cleveland Jewish News-Buffalo Wild Wings Warrensville Heights Player of the Week, kicking off the fall season.
Covitt, 17, earned the honors by leading the Hawks to a 5-0 record in nine-hole matches to start the year, with scores of 38, 38, 40, 35 and 37. In four of the five matches, Covitt, a Pepper Pike resident, was the medalist, earning the lowest score, and he had the second-lowest score in the match where he wasn’t the medalist.
A co-captain of the golf team, Covitt placed first in the Chagrin Valley Conference Preseason Tournament at Chardon Lakes Golf Course and first at the Berkshire Invitational at Pleasant Hill Golf Course, both in Chardon. Covitt also finished second at the Trinity Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course in Hinckley.
Covitt, who attends B’nai Jeshurun Congregation in Pepper Pike for High Holy Days services and also attends Park Synagogue, said his teammates have been “awesome” and stepped up this season after losing a key senior who graduated last year.
“For myself personally, after the good year I had last year, my hope was to continue playing at that level,” Covitt said.
