Fuchs Mizrachi School senior basketball player Simone Marocco is the Cleveland Jewish News-Buffalo Wild Wings Warrensville Heights Player of the Week.

Marocco, 17, helped the Mayhem in the Faye Comet Invitational, a tournament for Midwest Jewish high schools, and was the leading scorer of the tournament. She also won the 3-point shooting contest at the tournament for the second year in a row.

“It felt really great (winning the 3-point contest),” said Marocco, a Beachwood resident. “I have both trophies (from this year and last year) on the wall in my bedroom.”

Fuchs Mizrachi Athletic Director Dominic Ianiro said in an email that Marocco has been a “consistent leader” on the basketball team.

“She is always the hardest worker on the court,” Ianiro said.

Marocco, who plans to take a gap year in Israel after she graduates in the spring, said she thinks she wants to study medicine when she attends Stern College for Women in New York. She said she hopes to keep playing basketball beyond high school and she felt like she really improved in her senior season.

“I think I really improved and gained a lot of confidence this year,” she said. “As captain, I was able to lead the team and take in the underclassmen and help them and teach them.”
