Debbie and I have been overwhelmed by dozens of supportive conversations and emails and texts – and even by a few old-fashioned handwritten letters –

following the article about my leaving the Joseph ansd Florence Mandel

Jewish Day School after the 2019-20 academic year.  (“Isaak-Shapiro to

depart Mandel JDS,” May 19)

Not that I needed it, but taken together, they’ve been a wonderful reminder about the menschlicht nature of this special community. Teachers who work tirelessly on behalf of their students; parents of alumni who have long since graduated (some who have become Jewish day sSchool parents themselves); volunteers who exemplify genuine leadership – they’re the foundation of not just our own school, but of Jewish education throughout our history. I look forward to continuing to work alongside all of them through the end of our current year and all through next year, as Mandel JDS celebrates its 50th anniversary year.

Jerry D. Isaak-Shapiro, Head of School
