We appreciate the coverage in the Cleveland Jewish News of our event featuring Lior Raz, the co-creator and star of “Fauda” (From the Frontlines to Fauda: An Evening with Lior Raz. (“Fauda’s Raz delights at Mandel JDS gala,” Sept. 6).

As we noted that night, our goal wasn’t only to bring in the star of a hit Israeli TV show – which in and of itself would have been a terrific evening. Having Raz speak so candidly about his love of Israel and his own complex experience in the Israel Defense Forces was also the kickoff of an entire year of special programming as we mark our school’s 50th anniversary. As a school in which the arts play such an integral role and as a Zionist school that celebrates the centrality of Israel in our lives, this was a perfect event to pave the way to a yearlong celebration.

Thank you to Lisa Cynamon Mayers and Scott Simon, our event co-chairs, who characteristically threw themselves into a genuine labor of love for months. Our appreciation also goes to our professional staff who sweated the details to ensure that everyone walked out having a fantastic experience. Most significant of course, was to see a sellout crowd enter our newly renovated building and demonstrate their support of an enthusiastically pluralist school that reaches out and teaches to the entire spectrum of our community.
