After reading Cleveland Jewish News Staff Reporter Jane Kaufman’s article in the week’s CJN, I double-checked the date and it falls on Shabbat. (“Pinecrest pet project – seeking Guinness World Record for dogs in photo," July 26)

Now, I know this is an ongoing issue regarding non-kosher restaurants advertised in the CJN to a host of activities occurring on Saturdays, which is Shabbat. That makes the world go round in the CJN, but this conspicuously omits observant Jews from participating, and I know many Observant Jews with dogs.

While I am not strictly Sabbath-observant, I am mindful for the same reasons I have never driven in the University Heights Memorial Day parade when it fell on Shavout out of respect to my clientele and constituents in the community. The mayor at the time made it very clear, “You can’t change Memorial Day.” True, but you can change the parade to July 4. I will be contacting Pinecrest next.
